.

As time goes on, one of the biggest things I often reflect on the journey traveled is why we are where we are now.

By journey I mean that of our COTN family. It seems so easy to link up and join with us and yet have the next generation not even be aware of why we are even here. The danger is that we just become another local church or movement.

When chatting to Dee Harris from Cape Town recently, she shared how she had not long before sat down with a group of our young adults and was taken aback when she challenged them as to what their calling and goals were. To her dismay only two out of a room of about 23 knew what their life callings or goals were or could even articulate them.

This reaffirmed some of the deep concern I sometimes feel when I look around church family. When we started out in church ‘restoration’ some 30 plus years ago we lived in the mentality that we were all here to first and foremost serve the Cause and the Kingdom, urgently at the ready waiting to be mobilized. Emanating from that, we would get everything else to fit. Nowadays it seems the other way around. The ‘now generation’ sets everything else in place and then fits  the Church or Kingdom in.

So what has happened and why the shift? Well, I think the reason is twofold. Firstly we have allowed ourselves and those we are mentoring to become comfortable, and as a result we project the skewed message, resulting in the next generation missing it. We’ve lost our passion and urgency and have become professionals at what we do.

Secondly I believe that our strengths and weaknesses always sit alongside one another. Our teaching on Kingdom and the wonderful revelation that we are all ministers where we are, regardless of our vocation or calling is great. That is as long as we keep the Kingdom ever before us. When we fail to do that, the folk in the market place become merely workers or business people like anyone else, resulting in no one having any vision for the Kingdom cause of the Church or the Kingdom market place.

Jesus said: “foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no where to lay his head.” Matt 8:20 . I was struck and blessed recently when Jeremy and Becky Douglas Jones and Len and Lynelle Kok relocated to plant in Birmingham, UK and Cradock, SA respectively, that they were embracing this principle.

Lets return to the fervor of "Any Where, Any Place, Any Time", if we truly believe in the values and principles of the Cause of the King and his Kingdom.

Have fun knowing where you fit!

………… those are words that were prophetically belted out by the Beatles some years back. I don’t think even they had a clue of how true those words were at the time…… Yet not all freedom is permanent.

I encountered some of that just the other day when I took my car for its annual service. When I returned later in the day to collect my car it was washed, clean, serviced and ready to go. I was attend to by a very efficient service liaison lady who ran through the list of what they had done and replaced on my car. Then came the bill….. It was nil.
It has been ever since I purchased the vehicle some years ago, which has totally restored my confidence in motoring, manufacturers and vehicle service.

Next came the sting in the tail; “This is the last time you will be able to have a free service, Sir,” she exclaimed. She went on to explain that my maintenance agreement, which had come free with the car at the time of purchase had now run out. So not all things free last forever….that is except one.

Paul wrote to the Romans: The ‘free gift’ of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23 ). That statement is undeniably true… ‘the best thing in life’ and it is indeed free and God’s word assures us that it is from everlasting to everlasting.

I wonder if Lennon along with his friend McCarthy was even vaguely aware of his need for that authentic freedom when he penned those now legendary words, prior to his untimely death?

I guess by virtue of the fact that you are reading this you are probably persuaded of that wonderful truth. But when we pause to consider so much of what is temporal around us, it is worthwhile to consider and reflect with deep gratitude that we possess that One authentic gift that is truly FREE.

Enjoy your Freedom!

Dear COTN family,

I believe we have just exited from a decade that in the natural could have been described as one of humanistic striving and calamity and that we are now crossing over to a new ‘Divine Decade’.

Dwelling together is one of the things we as the COTN family do well.  We are once again gearing up toward our All African leadership conference in Durban, this time it promises to be better than ever. This year we will once again be hosted by the Harvest Church in Durban, April 14 – 16.   As such it is our joy as the Apostolic Council to invite you to join this family gathering.

With the above in mind we have chosen to call the conference ‘CROSS OVER …. THE DIVINE DECADE’. We believe that this will be somewhat of a prophetic statement and faith declaration of what God is doing on the earth at this time.

There are certain fresh things we will be reaching out to embrace as we stand on the threshold of this new decade. As a multifaceted, multi generational family we will be embracing the next generation and other dimensions that reflect who we are.

Please be reminded that this is for all Leaders and Elders as we believe it is a powerful way to inculcate our heart and values to your leadership. We ask that you particularly exhort your young adult leaders to attend.

Gods people are on the move, so don’t miss out.
Make Durban a Date!
Every Blessing.

David Cape.
On behalf of the COTN Apostolic Council.

Dave's Blog - The Need for Seasons PDF Print E-mail

Well here in Florida the fall has finally arrived. This morning it was 56°F or about 13°C. The summer lingered far beyond its normal duration. Life in this state is usually marked by a number of threatening hurricanes each summer. This one however has been the quietest summers since we have been here over the past ten years or so.

As I was sitting outside the other morning enjoying the cooler air, I was reflecting on how important the seasons in our lives are. We need to be pacing ourselves correctly. When we lived further south in Ft Lauderdale before migrating north in Florida, we used to have what I termed ‘the endless summer’. It could become wearisome at times.

I believe Jesus appreciated and understood life’s seasons and the art of pacing himself correctly. There were times when he had great interaction with the crowds, Feeding the 5,000 and celebrating at the temple festivals. Then there were the times when he withdrew to be on his own or be alone with just two or three of those closest to him. There too were those times when he literally went to the quiet place to be alone with His Father God.

We are no different. If the Savior needed these built in seasons how much more do we? I know I do.

Whatever season we may be in, let’s make the most of it and why not let’s make it our priority to enjoy it and build in props and protection to ensure we are living in a balanced harmonious life. After all it was He who first created the seasons.

Carol and I are looking forward to being back in Port Elizabeth, SA, to enjoy the most important season of all with our precious children and grandchildren.
